Self Harm

Self-harm, sometimes referred to as deliberate self-harm (DSH), describes the act of self-mutilation which is often the result of a buildup of negative emotions including depression, anxiety, frustration and self-loathing. Proponents of self-harm seek a relief from emotional angst by partaking in the activity. This can lead to an addictive cycle whereby an individual self mutilates as an emotional release which provides a temporary respite from their suffering but this is often followed by feelings of guilt and shame which can lead to self-loathing and cause further self-harm.
